Fashion was a big part of my world since I was little because my grandmother was a seamstress. I realized that Fashion is an Art Form the moment I got a reaction from my parents on how I dressed. As a student at The Corcoran School of Art + Design, I soon was immersed in so many various types of art and expression that there was no clear line that defined what art exactly should be....

To me, everything is a form of art; people’s way of thinking, literature, painting, fashion - you name it. Anything, or any way that we can express our thoughts, emotions, etc. is art. I first became interested in fashion ages ago, and it’s still a big part of my life. Without art, we are nothing. -Damien Zimri

“Fashion is another way to expressing human creativity so it’s an art form from the beginning of humanity. Not all fashion is art and not all creations are art. Time and history are the main channels to position when a creation is real ART”. -Elisa Pritzker, www.elisapritzker.com

I always did, but McQueen takes it to a new height! One only has to disengage the practical baseness of day-to-day streetware to see that fashion has always been an art. It is just a shame to see that more people are not artists in their day-to-day dress! And speaking of ( I know that budgets are tights) fashion design, I think that this would the perfect marketing opporutunity for the Met to...

Reading Dick Hebdige’s “Subculture: The Meaning Of Style.”  The way spectacular subcultures (marked, in this case, by style of dress) emerge through self-definition against dominant culture, are both lauded and reviled in a wave of hysteria, and are ultimately incorporated (or reabsorbed) back into dominant culture makes fertile ground for artists to explore the play of...

I think Picasso put it best: “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” So it is for us! -Paula Knaus

I realize it when i start e to make my jewelry, at the process whn making the wax. I’ve been drawing and painting b4 i moved into the fashion world, always, I feel fashion is somehow need to b commercial to sell, there is also fitting problems. When I was creating my jewelry, the sculpture of hot melting wax remind me of the time I used to draw and paint, melting wax became impossible shape...

This exhibit showed how complete mastery of skill coupled with a fearless willingness to experiment and push the boundaries beyond what anyone else has imagined clothing could be, convinced me in a way no other fashion exhibit has before. I want to congratulate the curator and staff of the fashion department for putting on the most extraordinary installation of an art exhibition I’ve ever...

As a dancer and choreographer I am overwhelmed by ‘Savage Beauty’. Alexander McQueen is in total connection with his audience: touching every soul while expressing the depths of his own soul. He is choreographing his world and conveying his vision in precious materials, using all the elements of movement, dynamics, space, timing, rhythm as in dance. Every dress, every costume throws...

Years ago I attended FIT in the evening for interior design classes and had the opportunity to watch the students’ fashion shows in the auditorium. I was blown away by the performance and setting of the students’ work. I kept on attending as often as I could and enjoyed watching the models/ garments come down the runway.  It opened up a new world to me. -Abby Goldman

Like most little girls, I’ve loved clothes for as long as I can remember. Playing dress-up my mother’s things, wearing my aunt’s high heels because her feet are so small they actually almost fit me as a little girl. Clothes can make you feel a certain way, whether you are wearing them or watching someone else wear them. Fashion evokes emotion. I think that is the basis of all art...

As an art form fashion can be judged as a stand alone piece independent of the wearers form or shape. Season or color or trends are a background noise. When placed on a artificial form or hanger the piece stands alone as an object of visual beauty on which the viewer sees different glimpses of beauty each day. -Marce Lewis

It started when I picked up my first Vogue magazine. I don’t even remember where I came across this “holy” book, but immediately I absorbed every page. The “look” on all the models seemed to be the same and all the various ways they held their carriage fascinated me. I adopted it for myself and until this day it lives with me. Next was noticing the different cloth...

Beautiful, creative and very stunning. McQueen was a very talented designer.  You can see the dark side of his personality. In the end you feel he’s gone, it is a great loss that he’s no longer with us. -Eileen Chase

I discovered fashion is art, in my first semester of fashion school, i realized that conceptual design is so great, and so liberating. I specially admire Mr Mc Queen, for the way he allowed his resources and the support he had to give his audience the immersion of his designs the way he did, agev me hope, it is outstanding, incomparable. I adore the opportunity of evoking a concept through garment...

Hitting high school and college in the 60’s, I was crazy about the “hippie” style of dressing.  I bought a pair of needlepoint pants at Julian’s in Chapel Hill..They were so heavy, but I so loved them. I continue to think about how cool they were and to kick myself that I gave them away 10 years later. (When I went from size 6 - 8).  I once made the huge mistake of wearing...

I have always thought that fashion was art. I’ve talked to many that don’t agree with me, but when I saw those clothes in the amazingly decadent stores, and understood the feel, I found bliss. The great couturiers of the world are all artists. They’re the geniuses of our time, and they take centuries of history, and weave it all together. Putting together an outfit is expressing...

Well, the first time that I realized fashion as an art form was when I was 11 (I am now 12 years old). I wasn’t at all interested in the common clothes of Juicy Couture or Hollister, but in clothes that I felt had meaning, like vintage pieces that seemed to tell a story. I realized that the maker of these clothes had created them to tell a story, such as a painting made by Monet or Picasso....

As a teenager, I always expressed myself with my clothing/accessories and am happy to say never followed what was ”in” at the moment.  I always devoured the European mags to see what was coming to the US, and then personalized the look with my own spin…it isn’t until I purchased a dress form that I realized Fashion Is Art.  My dress form looked as it belonged in a display...

Fashion is so much more than just clothing, it’s everything. It is the whole collaboration between so many different artists to create a masterpiece. I realized that fashion is truly art when I opened Vogue for the first time. The photographs are a beautiful combination between the background, the model, and of course the clothing that create a story and a feeling that only art can bring....
